Like thousands of high schools in the United States, Northview High School in Century, Florida began its Wednesday morning with the hustle and bustle of student life. It had morning announcements and birthdays, breakfast in the cafeteria, J.R.O.T.C students dressed in their Navy uniforms, and teachers and staff greeting their students and welcoming them to the start of their school day. However, what makes this Wednesday morning even more special is the staff at Achieve Escambia visiting Northview’s senior class discussing exciting careers after high school and how the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) can help make their dreams become realities.  Two of their graduating seniors, A’Precious Brooks and Lauren Sapp, sat down with Valery Hollinger, Achieve Escambia’s Community Outreach Coordinator, and shared brief insights into the careers they will pursue after graduation.

“I want to be a social worker.” Ms. Brooks said. “I really like children and I want to help kids that are in abusive or unsafe situations get help to get out of them. I also care about our country too, and I am going to enlist in the Air Force Reserves during my four years of college.” “I like the teachers and staff here at Northview High School because they care about all the students who attend school here. I mean, you can be out one day, but after that second day, somebody is calling to check on you. I like that they care about the things that are important to me and providing an opportunity for me to be better and do better. The best things about me are my outgoing personality and that people feel like they can confide in me, share good and bad things about how they living.”

Lauren Sapp has attended Northview High school since her freshman year and loves the inclusive atmosphere within the school. “I feel a personal connection to my teachers and other students here at school. I hate bullying and hurting others for no reason. They do not put up with that here, I love that!” Sapp also said, “I want to be a Bio-Marine Engineer or a Chemist and coming from a small community no one made me feel like I cannot be a scientist. “I want to share my scientific discoveries with the world, and travel to new places, continue my painting, and enjoying music.” “One of the best things about me is I love, love, love science. I love learning new things.”

Achieve Escambia will be on the campus of Northview High School every Wednesday helping students complete FAFSA applications in order to continue the path to “Achieving” those big futures.
